Why Use Leaf Litter?
Your bioactive substrates are crucial to the success of your setup and leaf litter adds the finishing touches, creating both a decorative feature as well as a practical benefit to your terrarium.
By covering your substrate with leaf litter, you aid the retention of moisture in the layer beneath, aiding humidity control and the moisture gradient. Leaf litter also provides a great place for smaller animals to securely hide away and keep themselves moist. This might be your clean-up crew like isopods and springtails, or inverts and amphibians such as dart frogs.
Top up your litter layer from time to time as required as it breaks down naturally into the substrate below.
